Portland Bach Experience

www.portlandbachexperience.com

Anchored in the Baroque tradition and centered around our world-class artists, the Portland Bach Experience uses distinctive programming, dynamic interpretations, and authentic connections that make the sounds of the past the music of now. We offer five ways to Experience Portland Bach: EXPERIENCE: THE SALON offers chamber music in intimate settings including art galleries, restaurants, and private homes. Patrons mingle with the musicians to delve more deeply into the music accompanied by local treats and fine wine. Co-hosts in 2018 included Greenhut Galleries, the Bob Crewe Gallery at Maine College of Art, the Portland Museum of Art, and private homes. EXPERIENCE: PORTLAND stages innovative and immersive events in nontraditional settings. These performances bring classical music into institutions and in front of audiences that are not traditional consumers of the medium. Highlights included Bach & Beer, Bach in a Bowling Alley, Coffee Cantata at the Portland Museum of Art, Bachbends Yoga, and A Suite Ride Through Portland presenting all six Bach cello suites in different locations throughout the city. EXPERIENCE: BACHANALIA (a play on Bacchanalia, a festival celebrating Bacchus, the Roman god of wine) explores the intersections of classical music, jazz, pop, and folk with concerts such as Bach & Bill Evans and Beyoncé in the Court of Louis XIV. EXPERIENCE: THE CONCERT presents full-length programs with baroque orchestra. Post-concert receptions allow audience members to interact with the artists, asking questions about their instruments, the composers, and the structure of the music. EXPERIENCE: UNDERSTANDING illuminates the lives of the composers and the architecture of the music through masterclasses, open dress rehearsals, interactive performances, and artist seminars like How to Build A Harpsichord, Cantata Sing-Along, Move to the Music, What is a Sackbut? Brass Instruments Petting Zoo, Music from the 30 Years’ War, and We’ll Handel the Children.
