The Latvian Institute (LI) provides information and raises awareness about Latvia abroad. LI's main goal is the promotion of Latvia’s positive international recognition, achieved by creating a competitive identity for the state. It is the main government institution focusing on the state's image, branding and promotion. LI carries out the following functions: 1) participates in creating joint guidelines and policy for Latvia’s identity abroad and coordinates implementation; 2) creates a network of partners (governmental and non-governmental institutions, private partners, experts and others) that cooperate with LI in state-promoting activities; 3) organizes activities promoting Latvia abroad and domestically. The Institute prepares and spreads general information about Latvia as well as more detailed articles about specific themes concerning the state, land and nation. It also offers informative materials about Latvia, creates and administers Latvia’s official informative portal for foreigners, offers information and consultations about issues in the competence of the Institute. LI carries out a variety of national and international projects within lines of its competence.
