Know Allegiance Nation (KAN) is a village building enterprise that seeks to build a nation of knowledge seekers through consciousness raising and literacy attainment. Three pillars make up the village building enterprise: basic literacy through the Illuminate: Literacy Entrepreneurs poetry program. Advanced literacy through broadcast journalism and the Operation Rebel Community Radio initiative. And survival literacy through agriculture and the Uhuru Sasa Farms/Organic Bandits farming initiatives. We also run a co-op bookstore called KAN Books that serves as a literacy hub for North End neighborhood and all of Detroit. Know Allegiance Nation has been educating students in community spaces since 2005.
