The company was initially established with the name Eastern Banking and Financial Organisation by the great visionary Sri. Abdul Rahman M M Al-Muftah as proprietorship firm in 1979 for doing currency exchange business in Qatar. Later on the name was changed as Eastern Exchange Establishment in 1997 and from 2015, the exchange has assumed the status of Limited Liability Company. Initially the exchange house was doing money exchange business. International operation started during November 1979 with remittance arrangement to Bangladesh. Indian operation started during 1980. Operational area further expanded to neighbouring Asian countries during 1981. A major breakthrough in functioning of the exchange came from the management contract entered with Canara Bank, the leading Nationalised Bank from India during November 1982 which enabled issue of Demand Draft drawn in India under Rupee Drawing arrangement. Presently Eastern Exchange is the only exchange house/bank in Qatar issuing Demand Drafts mainly catering to the requirement of students from Qatar seeking admission for higher education in India. The exchange is presently having 5 branches viz., (1) Jaidah Towers, Doha, (2) New Al Atiya Market – Industrial Area, (3) Near Chippi Roundabout – Al Wakrah, (4) Opp Ajmal Food Centre – Al Aziziya and (5) Opp to Souq Haraj – Najma. Presence of staff from different countries like India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Philippines & Egyptat counter makes our customers comfortable with the feel at home. The exchange house has online money transfer arrangement with almost all part of the world under strategic partnership with major banks and money transfer agencies.
