KAVANAH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a focus on three project areas: 1) Aging Home Renovation, 2) Kavanah Tiny House Build Projects, and 3) Kavanah Destination Housing. With the first project, KAVANAH purchases, renovates, and sells/rents homes providing stable, energy efficient, affordable housing. Through the renovation process, KAVANAH has taken out-of-work U.S. Veterans, taught them a trade, launching successful small business owners. KAVANAH has a goal of training five Veterans each year in the construction/home maintenance trades. Currently partnered with eight charter and high schools in the Sacramento Region, KAVANAH provides the building materials and the program for the Kavanah Tiny House Building Project. High school students, and at-risk young adults learn employable skills, while building solutions for homeless Veterans. These youths learn how to build a raised foundation, how to frame, roof, hang windows and doors, insulate, solar technology, drywall and texture, and finishes. Nearly every student and at-risk youth who has participated in the project has been offered paid summer internships or full time employment with partners in the Building Industry. KAVANAH is seeking sponsors to bring this program to the 35 schools on the wait list for the 2017/2018 school year. The completed Kavanah Tiny House is placed on a church or nonprofit partner's property, where the Veteran can receive care from the members, equipping them to transition to the next phase. In the Destination Housing model, KAVANAH partners with ministries, government agencies and other nonprofit organizations to provide care, services, and affordable housing. One home is being utilized to provide a safe place for men seeking deliverance from drug and alcohol addictions. The second home is providing an affordable, safe place for Veterans to regroup and refocus. In every project, KAVANAH instills a "Circle of Service" model; Community restoration by introducing students to the benefits of living a life of service, inspiring the recipient to serve.
