Elevating nature through exceptional stewardship. Southern Conservation Trust is a land trust founded in 1993 to preserve greenspace as our community develops. The Trust protects greenspace, conserves forests, safeguards rivers, shelters wildlife, provides environmental education, and ensures that everyone has equal access to nature in our own communities. We currently conserve and protect more than 57,000 acres across 11 states including Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Texas, and Colorado. The Trust works with landowners who wish to permanently protect the ecological, agricultural, scenic or historic qualities of their land. Participating landowners may be eligible to receive significant tax benefits for donating land to the Trust or permanently protecting it from development with a conservation easement. The Trust owns, manages and protects over 57,261 acres, including four donated preserves throughout the state of Georgia. We manage eight public nature areas in Fayette County: Flat Creek Nature Area and Somerby Woods Nature Area in Peachtree City, the Line Creek Nature Area on the border of Fayette and Coweta counties, Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary south of Fayetteville, Morgan Grove south Fayette County, Nesmith Preserve at Starr's Mill High School, The Ridge Nature Area in Fayetteville, and Wildcat Woods behind Whitewater High School.
