The alienated and dramatic side of photographer Iris Isabella Maria Lustermans aka Yres Isabella (24-11-1993) started young. She grew up in a warm family who captured every moment on camera. From a young age Iris already knew that she’s a very sensitive person with a lot of empathy for the people around her. If you look at photos from her youth you also see that she’s sharing those emotions. Together with her family she created images where she staged existing moments. Her fascination for the surreal grew during her childhood. She was a daydreamer and observed everything around her. She envisioned little scenes in her head and placed them in her current environment. Topics like mental health, transformations and relationship dynamics caused a turbulent time in her puberty. Because of these experiences she likes to use this topics in her current projects. “My work is a traveling adventure and it consists of a continuing exploration”. During a lifetime you see a lot of changes due to different experiences. The transformation of yourself but also your environment is a big inspiration for Iris her work. The past changes in a surrealistic place. For Iris the surrealistic world is one where she can be free. “For me it is important that people, for a moment, can be free from the surroundings and reality around them, just like daydreaming. To conclude ‘ I like to tell a real story in an unreal setting that gives people the opportunity to take them to an unreal world in which they can see themselves with their own imagination and go further to make it a personal experience. ‘ Emotions and the empathy that we want to arouse as an artist are always important to attract the attention of the viewer. The most important thing is that the feeling that is depicted is real.
