AWB was established in 2004 to provide extraordinary, one-of-a-kind acting and theatrical opportunities for children, teens and adults with physical disabilities. At its core, AWB is a unique year-round theater program that provides an open forum for the creative and artistic expression of young people with physical disabilities, over the age of four. The primary goal of AWB is to provide people from the disabled community with the rare opportunity to pursue their love of acting and performing while building their self-confidence and developing an enhanced belief in themselves and their abilities. AWB lives out its mission by: • Challenging perceptions about people with disabilities and their capabilities. • Producing professional quality theater in nontraditional ways. • Teaching performing arts skills through year-round programs and workshops that build confidence on –stage and beyond. • Creating a community of support for people with physical disabilities and their families. • Giving back to the community through performances and presentations. AWB offers a variety of programs year-round. The actors meet monthly for a drama workshop designed and conducted by professional actors and theater educators. They participate in a week-long summer workshop for the first unveiling of the annual performances for ESF Summer Camps. In July and October, the actors perform their major production in front of a "full-house" of audiences. Beyond performances, AWB provides social outings and field trips for actors including outings to the Kimmel Center, the Academy of Music and much more. AWB also conducts performances at schools, summer camps, retirements homes, and hospitals across the tristate area to educate on the importance of disability awareness and diversity appreciation.
