Metropolitan Washington Federal Safety & Health Council
www.osha.govWe’re a local chapter of the OSHA inter-agency federal safety & health council (FFSHC) which was chartered by the Secretary of Labor to “facilitate the exchange of ideas and information throughout the Government about safety and health in the workplace.” We are a dynamic forum for sharing knowledge, ideas, expertise, technology, and other resources among participating members, with a goal of reducing the incidence, severity, and cost of injuries & illnesses to federal employees. The MWFSHC is one of almost 35 chartered FFSHC located throughout the United States. Almost all Federal agencies rely on outside sources for the training, education, and new ideas necessary for maintaining optimum efficiency, as well as for the well-being of their employees, volunteers, contractors, and members of the public. The MWFSHC can often leverage scarce or prohibitively expensive resources by sponsoring training seminars locally (free or at low cost), coordinating shared OSH resources and expertise, and providing free mini-training sessions at chapter meetings. We are committed to promoting safety in the National Capital Region; We promote cooperation and expertise/resource sharing; Provide pertinent and applicable information to members through monthly meetings and training opportunities; and acts as a clearinghouse for all types of safety and health information. All Federal employees and Military members who wish to join the MWFSHC are considered members. Representatives from non-Federal organizations are most certainly welcome and are eligible for Associate Membership. The MWFSHC membership is composed of OSH (and related) professionals, collateral-duty safety personnel, managers, supervisors, union representatives, and others who are committed to helping ensure a safe and healthful workplace at their facilities. The “cost” of membership is the dedication required to regularly attend meetings, and work together to make the MWFSHC a dynamic and valuable resource.
