The University of Bristol Liberty Society is a prestigious society with a membership that offers a variety of opportunities; professionally, socially, and intellectually. Above all, we provide a fun and safe environment for the exchange of ideas focused on the betterment of society. Full Description: The University of Bristol Liberty Society envisions a society that cherishes social, economic, and political liberty and champions civil liberties, private property, and the rule of law. There are two maxims central to our philosophy: • Firstly, to each their own - Every individual knows what is best for them and should possess the freedom to make their own choices and choose their actions accordingly, so long as they do not restrict or interfere with the liberties of others. • Secondly, for the betterment of society- We believe that through free and open society and the necessary structures for its maintenance, the problems of disease, poverty, global warming, and other global issues could be solved. Entirely non-partisan and independent of any external organization, the society creates an environment accessible to all, whereas our diverse membership allows for both the open exchange and interrogation of liberty-related ideas. In this regard, we aim to create an atmosphere that encourages interesting and rigorous intellectual debates in a civilized and well-mannered way; while also nurturing a fraternity of liberty-loving individuals. With the privilege of support from several think tanks including The Institute of Economic Affairs and The Freedom Association, the society is also able to provide events and activities that build a better understanding of the principles of free societies and ideas of wealth creation. Though most importantly, we provide education and entertainment to the students and residents of Bristol.
