WFHB is Indiana’s first community radio station, founded in 1993 and now serving a six-county area (Monroe, Brown, Morgan, Greene, Jackson, and Lawrence). The station’s mission is ‘ to provide an open forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas and issues, and to celebrate and increase the local cultural diversity.’ WFHB promotes a wide range of musical genres, prioritizing diversity in its programming and boasts extensive local news and public affairs programming, striving to provide a voice for as many people in the region as possible, including those in the LGBTQI communities and people of color. WFHB’s commitment to grow and evolve with the community has led to dozens of journalism awards, as well as ongoing support by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and recognition for the station’s advocacy in the diverse Bloomington Area music scene as an essential hub to the community of independent musicians in south-central Indiana. During the annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, listeners are treated to world-famous musicians playing live in our studios to promote their work, as well as the festival itself.
