Anti-Doping Lab Qatar
www.adlqatar.netThe State of Qatar is, and has always been a country dedicated to sport and sport tourism. This has been of a particular importance to achieving the ultimate objectives of the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030. Therefore, Qatar has actively and successfully hosted many international sporting competitions starting with the Asian Games back in 2006, FINA World swimming championships in 2014 and the 2015 World men’s handball championship. More exciting sporting events are coming up like the 2019 IAAF World Championships, and the very much anticipated FIFIA 2022 World Cup. In February 2008, a proposal was made to WADA, which supported the project fully as a West Asia laboratory. The WADA accredited Barcelona laboratory was chosen as a chaperone laboratory where their team have been most instrumental. From there the project progressed smoothly and efficiently. In December 2012, the ADLQ building was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. ADLQ needed to be a separate governing structure from Qatar’s sporting agencies and with the effort to uphold the Olympic ideal of fair play the following steps were taken: • ADLQ as an independent entity reporting directly to The Emir of the State of Qatar • Appointment of an international Board of Trustees ADLQ has achieved the full WADA accreditation in August 2015. ADLQ is also compliant with ISO/IEC17025, and has already achieved accreditation for the tests of Athletes Biological Passport (ABP), effective from the 10th of February, 2014.
