We are a non profit organization dedicated to rehabilitating California's Coastal Streams. CEMAR scientists work with landowners and managers, local community members, all levels of government, and other non-governmental organizations to develop durable solutions to improve California's coastal streams by addressing water supply reliability and habitat degradation. Our staff’s skills and approach generate results that are both scientifically credible and politically legitimate, an essential combination for producing meaningful change. CEMAR focuses on steelhead and salmon restoration in coastal California as a primary goal, as these valued species are a powerful means for catalyzing efforts that produce rehabilitation results. Since its founding in 2000, CEMAR has researched and published authoritative works on steelhead distribution in tributaries to the San Francisco Estuary, coastal California south of the Golden Gate and the Eel River watershed. In each of these regions, CEMAR has identified the most promising watersheds and streams for restoration, and defined the key projects and actions to complete rehabilitation of these valuable ecosystems.
