Smartfin combines a performance surf and paddle board fin with high-tech sensors that fill a gap in coastal data needed to protect the ocean. Ocean temperatures are rising, but little is known about the impact on coastal ecosystems. The surf zone is difficult to study because traditional methods of acquiring data are difficult to maintain and too expensive to be deployed in large numbers. Smartfin solves this problem, and engages a broader community to protect the ocean.
