Cluster Tutoring Program
www.clustertutoring.orgCluster provides free one-to-one tutoring to more than 100 students from Chicago's Austin neighborhood. The program's mission is to help its students realize their potential through the power of learning in an environment that strengthens the student, tutor, and community. Tutors and students meet throughout the school year, September through May, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. either on Tuesdays at Pine Avenue United Church, 5460 W. Augusta Blvd. in Chicago, or on Thursdays at First United Church of Oak Park, 848 Lake St. in Oak Park. Cluster has students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The program stresses reading at all grade levels, and at each session, tutor-student pairs work on a combination of reading and homework. Cluster's reading project provides students and tutors with a reading curriculum to work on each week. Other enrichment activities at the program include a basic math skills project, a student newsletter, and pre-college guidance workshops for older students. Resources such as books, laptop computers, flashcards, games, and other teaching aids are available in the tutoring libraries at both sites. A reading specialist and a librarian are available to assist. For more information, call Executive Director Kathryn McCabe at 773-378-5530 or email her at mccabek@clustertutoring.org. Or visit our website at www.clustertutoring.org.
