The Institute engages in education, research, and direct services. Education – ISH hosts educational events, workshops, continuing education for healthcare professionals, and retreats covering a wide range of topics. Often, these are in collaboration with others. - Psychotherapy and Faith Conference (24th annual) - Nursing Conference (23rd annual) - Medicine and Religion Conference (5th Annual) - Regular Workshops and Lecture Series - Baylor College of Medicine Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Experience Research – Several exciting research initiatives are underway at ISH: - Houston Area Physician’s Survey, which explores the beliefs and practices of Houston area physicians and how they relate to medical practice. - Texas Children’s Hospital Yoga project, evaluating the impact of yoga on adolescents with bipolar disorder. - Examining Neural Correlates of Meditation Practice in partnership with leading universities Direct Services – Direct services are important to ISH in that we value direct contact with the struggles of our community. We sponsor: - A bereavement group, open to those grieving the loss of a loved one. - An Employee Enrichment Program for corporations and other entities in Houston. - Spiritual formation offerings and consultation in multiple venues, most notably The Women’s Home. - The Meditation Station, a pop-up contemplative environment.
