Disability Action in Islington (DAII) was set up in 1996 following consultation with local disabled people about what sort of disability rights organisation they wanted in Islington. DAII is a Disabled Peoples Organisation (DPO). This means we were created by and are defined by disabled people. All of our Management Committee members are disabled people as are many of our staff and all of our volunteers. This creates a unique organisational culture, welcoming to other disabled people, and able to understand the experiences disabled people. From the outset we have had a clear vision of our purpose - to enable local disabled people to access services and entitlements and challenge exclusion and discrimination. We work with other DPOs and Inclusion London - a pan-London deaf and disabled organisation to promote equality for disabled people.
