NextVerb was an early-stage startup with a mission to predict human behavior through social data. The company’s product was a mobile application called allTomato. allTomato was “Pandora for restaurant”: It provided a user with real-time, location-based, and personalized restaurant, cafe, and bar recommendations by understanding the user’s tastes through his/her social graph. The recommendation engine applied belief propagation and collaborative filtering techniques on geo-tags found on the user’s Facebook and Instagram social graphs to extract his/her taste in food and to predict what other restaurant he/she might like.
