Smoothwater Capital Corporation is Canada's activist investment fund focusing on investing in small to midcap Canadian public companies where there is an identifiable path to significantly improve the share value. We do our own research to identify potential invesments, seeking companies that have hard assets that we can value, significant impairment in stock price and a pathway to a rapid increase in value, and in which we can make a material investment. We work to effect change in targeted companies, often collaboratively with institutional and other like-minded investors who hold material positions but are not able to take on the time consuming and costly activist role. Ideally, the required strategic changes can be negotiated with the current management and board. If not, Smoothwater will seek to change the board and, if needed, management to ensure that the value maximizing strategy is implemented.
