He was hired as an assistant public defender and then promoted to the felony division. After proving his exceptional trial skills, Steven earned another promotion, this time to Supervisor of the Juvenile Division of the Broward County Public Defender’s Office. His background passionately defending the rights of the indigent allows him to confidently defend clients against a wide range of charges. Steven Bell met Lawrence Meltzer while on opposite sides of the court room and they gained a strong mutual respect for each other’s conviction and abilities, which led to the formation of Meltzer & Bell. Lawrence began his career in criminal law working with the State Attorney’s Office in the County Court Division prosecuting cases. His prosecution skills lead him to become a Broward County Special Unit Felony Prosecutor, where he gained even more relevant knowledge on how crimes are prosecuted. He uses that experience as a criminal defense attorney, finding weakness in the prosecution’s case. Steven and Lawrence use their diverse background and the skills learned through their extensive legal experience to defend clients facing DUIs, marijuana charges, drug charges and domestic violence charges, among others.
