The Institute quaranties execution of the state geological service, which include the solution of tasks of geological research and exploration territory of Slovak Republic, creation, use and protection of the information system in geology, registration, collection, listing and make available the results of geological works carried within Slovak Republic. Due this purpose Institute performs mainly: - Systematic and complex geological survey of the territory of Slovak Republic - Projecting, performance and evaluation of geological works - Safeguarding the activities as a reference laboratory for geological sciences - Safeguarding of obligations following from the Law of National Council of Slovak Republic No. 313/1999 of the Law Code on geological works and state geological administration (geological law) and from the Law of National Council of Slovak Republic No. 44/1988 of the Law Code on the protection and utilisation of mineral resources (mine law), in wording of the Law of National Council of Slovak Republic No. 498/1991 of the Law Code - Management of registers of: exclusive deposits, deposits of reserve mineral raw materials, prognostic sources of raw materials, boreholes, hydrogeological and geothermal boreholes, map geological exploration, specific-purposal geological map exploration, geophysical exploration, landslides, solid waste disposals, old mining works - Elaboration of groundwork and information on possibilities of enterprise in geological works, utilisation of raw materials, groundwater and geothermal energy sources, protection and sustainable usage of rock environment and groundwater, for governmental institutions, inland and foreign investors - operating following the law of national Council of Slovak Republic No. 149/1975 of the Law Code on keeping archives in the wording of regulations as amended later - Safeguarding of activity of the Centre of partial monitoring system – Geological factors of environment
