www.justice.govThe United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas is led by U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox and has prosecutive responsibility over 96,000 square miles in the northern and western areas of Texas, with a population in excess of eight million. The Northern District’s 100 counties are divided into seven divisions with the headquarters office located in Dallas. There are branch offices in Fort Worth, Lubbock, and Amarillo, San Angelo, Wichita Falls, and Abilene. AUSAs working in the Criminal Division, the District’s largest Division, prosecute violations of federal criminal laws. They work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to enforce criminal laws throughout the District and are responsible for a wide variety of prosecutions consistent with priorities set by the Attorney General of the United States. AUSAs in the Civil Division represent the United States, whether it is a plaintiff or defendant, in civil suits. AUSAs who work in the District’s Appellate Division represent the United States in cases on appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. United States Attorney Erin Nealy Cox was appointed by the President, confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and sworn into office in November 2017. Under her direction, a team of approximately 120 AUSAs prosecute crimes ranging from complex fraud and public corruption to drug smuggling and gang violence. U.S. Attorney Nealy Cox currently serves as the Chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, a group of 15 U.S. Attorneys advising the AG on policy and substantive issues affecting the Justice Department. Nealy Cox also serves as one of five United States Attorneys on the Justice Department’s China Initiative, combatting economic espionage perpetrated by the government of China.
