Mataroa is a non-for-profit organization, based in the city of Kalamata, Greece. It aims to redefine culture and educational identity of the city, through world class activities. Entrepreneurship and innovation are Mataroa ‘s key pillars, with direct impact in fields that Kalamata can thrive, such as education, rural economy and development, tourism, urban development and culture. Its goal is to develop all necessary tools, to transmit knowledge and to support creative individuals and groups though innovative world-class activities on local and regional level, events, trainings, workshops, seminars, meetings, and projects. Mataroa already offers three open events – CoderDojo Kalamata, Paramythoparea tou Savvatou (Saturday’s storytellers fellowship) and OpenTourism Kalamata, with the cooperation of local organizations, schools, bookstores, hotels, and parents associations, and with the support of the local mass media. CoderDojo Kalamata and Paramythoparea tou Savvatou are offered for free, every Saturday in different places in Kalamata, and are focused on local youngsters (6-12 years old). Web and game development, technology; arts, creativity, and story-telling are competencies that gather 45-85 young participants along with their parents in every event. OpenTourism Kalamata, one of the first OpenTourisms organized in the Greek province, is an open monthly event for all those who love and work in the broader tourism sector, aiming to create synergies and best practices for a quality development of tourism in Messenia. The first OpenTourism Kalamata, brought together 80 professionals, from the whole Peloponnese.
