SAI (Save Animals Initiative) Sanctuary is a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary (WLS) trust in India and a 501(c)(3) organization in the United States. SAI has purchased more than 300 acres to date in the Western Ghats of southern India – which has been formally designated as a biodiversity hotspot by the United Nations. SAI is India’s first private wildlife sanctuary with a 25-year legacy of conservation, rescue, and rehabilitation in the Coorg district. SAI is home to over 300 types of birds, including the Paradise Flycatcher, honored in our organization’s logo. Wildlife at SAI includes hundreds of indigenous trees and plants, many of which contain medicinal properties. There is also an abundance of threatened animal species: river otters, deer, monkeys, fish, snakes, foxes, leopards, elephants, boar, and tigers. In 2017, our co-founder Pamela Gale Malhotra was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar (Woman Power Award) by The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. In 2014, SAI won the Wildlife and Tourism Initiative of the Year Award for eco-tourism that protects forests and wildlife. Our eco-cottages are open to the general public and run entirely on solar and alternative energy. Details to plan your visit: http://www.saisanctuary.com/sst.htm
