Greenpeace USA

Almost 50 years ago, a handful of determined activists leased a small fishing vessel, called the Phyllis Cormack, and set sail from Vancouver for Amchitka Island in Alaska. Their mission was to protest U.S. nuclear testing off the coast of Alaska with a brave act of defiance: to place themselves in harm’s way. These daring activists sailed into history by bringing worldwide attention to the dangers of nuclear testing even after they were intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard during their mission. Since then, Greenpeace has indeed changed the world by continuing to make it a better place for all. Together, activists and supporters have gathered to fight to ban commercial whaling, defend the Amazon Reef in Brazil, convince the world’s leaders to stop nuclear testing, protect Antarctica, and so much more. Today, we have grown from a small group of dedicated activists to an international organization with offices in more than 50 countries,12 Frontline offices in cities throughout the U.S. and 2 primary U.S. offices within Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. Greenpeace USA is currently working on campaigns to save the arctic, fight climate change, defend democracy, protect our forests and our oceans and promote sustainable food. Greenpeace is actively working to address these and other threats.
