CFIS (Interdisciplinary Higher Education Centre) is a special excellence school created in 2003 by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)-BarcelonaTECH to host some of the best mathematics, physics and engineering students in Spain. The academic programs of this school bring together different specialities of sciences and engineering in order to give a complete and interdisciplinary training within a very demanding and challenging environment. Our aim is to recruit, select, train and tutor students who are highly capable and have the motivation to take an interdisciplinary course of study in the framework of our innovative offer. After a very selective process, we only choose 40 students per year out of more than 250 applications that we receive from highly talented students from all over the country. The selection process includes an exhaustive test and problem solving examination of physics and mathematics. Our students obtain in paralel two different official degrees, that they can choose among Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science and Physics, Industrial, Civil, Telecommunication, Aerospace and Electronics engineering. While a normal degree lasts 4 years, our students follow both degrees in 4 years and a half. We consider them among the best 1% in UPC. Our centre is supported by UPC and different companies and private Foundations in order to fund grants to cover fees, accommodation, summer programs and an international mobility semester for our students.
