The Africa Public Health Foundation exists to forge partnerships that advance the Africa CDC’s life-saving work, strengthen public health systems and improve health outcomes for more than 1 billion people across the Continent. OUR STORY The Africa Public Health Foundation is an independent charitable foundation, created by the African Union to mobilise philanthropic and private-sector resources to support the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention’s critical health work across the continent. Together with leading philanthropists and partners from within Africa and across the world, we are ensuring that African health systems can meet the needs of over one billion citizens. Based in Nairobi and founded by African health leaders, the Foundation was established in 2019, just weeks before the COVID-19 crisis began to unfold. The pandemic that since took hold has shown us all that a weakness in any national health system is a risk to us globally. The Africa CDC, as a technical institution of the African Union, has the mandate from Member States to strengthen health systems across the Continent, based on national plans and priorities. But we know that we cannot do this alone. Ambitious partnerships from across the public, private and philanthropic sectors in Africa and beyond must be forged to develop practical solutions, and drive innovation to address existing and emerging challenges including emergency preparedness and response, prevention, and treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and healthcare workforce training and development. JOIN US Your support to the Foundation saves lives in Africa and strengthens our collective resilience.
