Uganda is consistently ranked as one of the youngest and most entrepreneurial countries in the world - almost 30% of young Ugandans are engaged in the early stages of setting up a business. However, there's a bottleneck in the startup pipeline - the "pioneer gap" - highlighted by the national funding gap of $4.87 B (IFC, 2017). This “Pioneer gap” is caused by entrepreneurs never fully committing to their start-up and/or building the models and traction required to attract funding. 89% of entrepreneurs have never accessed entrepreneurship promotion and support programs, and only 2% expect to employ 20+ people in the next five years. (both GEM, 2015) United Social Ventures believes the best way to bridge the pioneer gap is to provide a pathway for entrepreneurs to build social start-ups that are ready for, and attractive to, funders. This is achieved through global best-practice trainings - based on a toolkit with 100+ hours of content, grounded in Human Centered Design and Lean Start-Up, as well as 8 years of experience with young entrepreneurs in Uganda - and ongoing low cost advisory support to innovative young entrepreneurs which makes it accessible from the very start of their journeys. All this helps young entrepreneurs build ventures with innovative and detailed impact and business models, and the right systems in place to go to market, grow faster and further, and ultimately create systemic impact.
