To date, all of its funds have originated with debt swaps between the Colombian and U.S. governments (under the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative and the Tropical Forest Conservation Agreement ). The Fund’s mission is to generate significant and sustainable changes in Colombian society around two thematic priorities: (a) the conservation of biological diversity, promoting sustainable and equitable development, and protection of ecosystem services, and (b) protection and development of children, with emphasis on early childhood. The Fund has become one of the most important sources of funding for conservation and sustainable development initiatives in Colombia. Fondo Acción invests in conservation projects in threatened ecosystems, focusing on habitat protection and restoration, sustainable development, local participation, and capacity building of nongovernmental and community-based organizations. The Fund has a solid track record in fund administration and management. These processes have been certified by Bureau Veritas Quality International and ANAB as compliant with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 International Quality Standard. Fondo Acción is a member of the USAID-sponsored Network of Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Funds, RedLAC.
