As leaders of the biopharmaceutical industry, we promote the understanding of our economic and social contribution. ECONOMIC IMPACT The biopharmaceutical industry represents 30% of the island's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Also represents 33% of the local government’s income. Additionally, the industry generates over 78,000 jobs on the island: 18,000 direct and 60,000 indirect. BOARD OF DIRECTORS The PIA Board of Directors is composed of twelve members, which include senior executives from the manufacturing and the commercial sector. Board members focus their efforts on five permanent committees: 1. Competitiveness 2. Patients Outcomes 3. Quality Assurance 4. Communications & Public Affairs 5. Government Affairs PIA gathers 15 corporations organized in 26 manufacturing operations and 11 commercial entities. PIA does not manufacture or market any pharmaceuticals.
