In Celtic tradition, the hearthfire was integral for the comfort, warmth, and survival of the home. Always burning, and perceived as a detriment when left long enough to go out, the fire gave all family members the nourishment and care that was required all throughout the year, in times of stress, or simply when the need for comfort and security was warranted.
