Friend of the Earth is an international certification scheme for sustainable agriculture and farming. It was developed on the basis of the SAFA (Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture systems) guidelines dictated by the FAO (United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture) and its principles are based on the safeguarding and protection of the entire ecosystem within which certified companies carry out their business. Friend of the Earth is a project born in 2013 on the initiative of Paolo Bray, founder and director of the World Sustainability Organization, an organization based in Italy and operating all over the world, whose goal is the conservation of ecosystems. Friend of the Earth certification is issued for those products that respect a strict chain of custody. All products and their origin are controlled according to the strict criteria of environmental sustainability and social responsibility established by Friend of the Earth.
