Our service area on the Northshore of Chicago includes: Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, Winnetka, Kenilworth, Northfield, Northbrook, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Deerfield, Vernon Hills, Lincolnshire, Libertyville, Gurnee, Waukegan, North Chicago, and areas surrounding. Meals on Wheels NEI provides two meals a day, one hot and one cold, made either in our new community kitchen or, for medically prescribed meals, by Northshore University HealthSystem/Evanston Hospital. All food is low salt, low fat, and low cholesterol. Medically prescribed diets include: diabetic, cardiac, renal, gluten free, or salt free. Meal fees are $8/meal. A sliding scale is available for clients who require a lower fee. Meals on Wheels NEI Volunteers deliver meals Monday through Saturday between 10:15am and 1:30pm. Meals are delivered in all weather and on all holidays. Volunteers use their own vehicles to deliver meals on predetermined routes. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, have a clear background check, have a valid driver's license, and have insurance to drive. Volunteers may work independently or in pairs and sign up for a weekly route.
