Although some of these restrooms look clean, there are large numbers of germs and bacteria that cannot be seen. Every year millions of the world’s poorest people die from preventable diseases which are often caused by poor hygiene, with women and children making up the largest number of these deaths. According to a study published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology more than 77,000 different types of bacteria were found after swabbing only four public restrooms.
