The Zambia ICT College was officially opened in 1972 by the late Dr. Fwanyanga Mulikita, the then Minister of Power, Transport and Communication. It was constructed with the help of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), to provide in-service training for Post and Telecommunications staff within the country and the region. In 2010, the Zambian Government privatized the parent company Zamtel which resulted into the separation and hand over of the College to ZICTA as a caretaker institution on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Later, in 2014, the Government decided to transfer full ownership and control of the College to ZICTA with a view to transforming it into a National ICT Centre of Excellence and become the Talent Training Centre within the SMART ZAMBIA Project. The transition saw the change of name from Zamtel Training College to Zambia ICT College. At the beginning of 2018, the College saw another change when it was placed under SMART Zambia Institute. This followed the establishment of the ICT Centre of Excellence (ICE) at the College under SMART Zambia Phase I Project in 2016 and the commencement of the construction of the Cybersecurity Laboratory under SMART Zambia Phase II Project. The College Offers both Academic and Professional Programmes, with the majority of programmes being in ICT’s in line with its mandate. Academic programmes offered include Diplomas, Bachelors’ Degree and Masters’ Degrees. The College also offers professional programmes mostly in ICT’s at the ICT Centre of Excellence and a few business professional programmes in the Academics Department.
