St Mary's Music School, Edinburgh is Scotland's only specialist independent music school and also its only choir school, selecting pupils for their musical promise, regardless of means, with up to full financial support available. Located in the heart of Edinburgh, a world capital of culture, we enable young musicians to excel in a safe and supportive culture that is creative, inclusive and committed. Our students are constantly inspired by the superb teachers who deliver unrivalled tuition both music and academic to the pupils, from the ages of 9 to 19 (with entry for young instrumentalists possible at any stage.) Academic results are excellent. Our pupils benefit from small class sizes and individual attention and in 2017/18 pupils achieved 100% pass rate at Advanced Higher with 83% achieving A grades, at National 5 level, 98% of pupils passed, with 84% at A grade. Students achieved 100% pass rate for Cambridge Pre-U Music with 88% achieving distinction. At the end of their time with with, most of our leavers embark on further music education at conservatoires in the UK and abroad and many of our alumni are renowned throughout the UK and abroad. Some students also pursue successful careers in professions such as engineering and medicine. The school was first established in 1880 to educate the choristers of the newly buit St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, and that link remains firmly in place today. The choir regularly record for the BBC and other channels and frequently tour internationally. All our students perform in public concerts throughout the year and we work closely with some of Scotland's world famous ensembles and musicians. As a centre of excellence, we welcome pupils from across Scotland, the rest of the UK and beyond and we have 30 residential boarding places in twin ensuite rooms. As well as providing a full time education, we also offer Saturday music classes for all ages and abilities, masterclasses and summer schools.
