WTS Canadian Education Foundation
www.wtscef.caThe WTS Canadian Education Foundation is a volunteer-run, registered Canadian charity dedicated to supporting post-secondary students in studies that lead to careers in the transportation industry. Please visit https://wtscef.ca to learn more. The roots of the WTS Canadian Education Foundation go back to the year 2003, when the first international chapter of WTS was established on Canada’s west coast. From the outset, scholarship activities were identified as a priority in meeting chapter objectives. Once it was determined the WTS International Scholarship program did not support studies at Canadian institutions, the Canadian chapter established a Canadian scholarship awards program. The WTS Strait of Georgia Education Foundation was incorporated on November 5, 2007. One year later, the new Education Foundation was approved as a registered Canadian charity. Chapter events were the primary source of fundraising for the Education Foundation until a very generous bequest from a WTS member, Pippa Woods, significantly increased the donation base and resulted in an endowment fund with Simon Fraser University in her mother's honour. The $30,000 endowment fund grants an annual award, the “Joy de Cosson Graduate Research Fellowship in Sustainable Transportation” to a masters-level student in the Urban Studies program. In 2015, four new directors from Ontario were added to the Education Foundation Board and the decision was made to transition to a national entity so that Foundation support was available to WTS Chapters nationwide. On July 6, 2016, the name was officially changed to the “WTS Canadian Education Foundation”. Since then, an additional four directors have joined the board and fundraising initiatives have led to the provision of multiple post-secondary scholarships of $2,500 each in collaboration with the WTS Toronto Area Chapter.
