The GNCHR is the independent advisory body to the State on matters pertaining to human rights protection. It has been established and is functioning in accordance with the UN Paris Principles. Its members are nominated by institutions whose activities cover the field of human rights: NGOs, trade unions, independent authorities, universities, bar associations, political parties, Parliament and the Αdministration. The GNCHR’s main mission is to monitor and raise awareness on HR developments, to conduct research and formulate policy advices on HR issues and to promote HR education. In its mission, GNCHR cooperates with national and international institutions active in the field of HR protection and has established networks with international organizations and NHRI's of other States. The GNCHR has been accredited, since 2002, A status (full compliance) by the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, recognising – among others – its institutional independence and the broadness of its mandate.
