Kiwi Can Do
www.kiwi-can-do.co.nzWHAT WE DO Kiwi Can Do is a programme that has been developed in response to the skills shortage in New Zealand. There has never been a better time in New Zealand’s history to pull on a fluro, a hard hat and steel cap boots, learn a skill and become a Tradie. Many people find it hard to grab the bottom rung of the employment ladder and get started. That’s where Kiwi Can Do makes a difference. We get New Zealanders work ready and work fit. We build confidence and we match our cadets up with employers. OUR PROGRAMMES Our programmes are short, sharp and effective. Our contract with Work and Income means we are a free training, recruitment and placement service where everybody benefits. We stay in touch for three months—twice weekly in the first four weeks and monthly after that. During this time our job is to recognise issues an employer or employee is having and resolve them. We are a Government-funded service designed to manage and ensure Kiwi Can Do cadets transition smoothly into work and stay there. OUR APPROACH The recruitment of cadets is a critical first step. Our candidates must: -Have a positive attitude and desire to work -Have the ability to work as required by the employer, listen, take instruction and learn -Be interested in the potential for career qualifications -Pass a drug test and be healthy and work fit -Have own mode of transport with appropriate licence (preferred) -Have clean criminal history (depending on the type of offence and when it took place) -Supply references for checking including approval for a Ministry of Justice check WHAT WE DELIVER -Basic knowledge of the work environment -Understanding of work ethic -Employer expectations of their workers -Being part of a motivated team environment -Importance of workplace communication -Getting to work every day and on time -Career pathway /qualifications -Practical tuition and training
