The New Orleans City Council is the legislative branch of the New Orleans city government. Under the New Orleans City Charter all legislative powers of the City shall be vested in the Council and exercised by it in the manner and subject to the limitations set forth in the Charter. The Council consists of seven members, five of which represent sections of the city known as districts.
