"Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iasi was founded in 1879 as a Medical Faculty, and was later associated with two other institutions that complement the medical training area - the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Dentistry. In 1991, the institute was given the status of University, receiving the name of the famous representative of the School of Functional Anatomy Iasi, Grigore T. Popa. Later, the Faculty of Bioengineering, the only one of its kind in Romania, was included. Established with the University of Iasi, the activity of the Faculty of Medicine begins on 1 December 1879, due to the presence of M. Kogalniceanu and N. Kretzulescu in the Government, as well as the shortage of medical staff after the independence war of 1877.
