The University of Kirkuk was established on January 17, 2003, and annually celebrates its university day on the 3rd of April of each year. At the beginning of its career, it organized four colleges: Law and Education for Humanities, Science and Nursing. In order to meet the needs of the market, Engineering and Agriculture, as well as the Faculty of Administration and Economics, which was introduced in 2007-2008 and the College of Education for Pure Sciences in 2011-2012, after which the University witnessed a comprehensive scientific leap, including the introduction of veterinary colleges, physical education, sports sciences and many scientific and humanitarian sections. The Master's degree in Physics, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Law, Arabic Language and Horticulture Department in the Faculty of Agriculture will be part of the University's plan and vision to open new horizons that will help to provide the governorate with the most promising and promising experiences. The scientific achievements of the university after the transition to the new university in the clinic, led by the Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Arts, as well as the development of a college of education and another for agriculture in the province of Hawija province of Kirkuk. Over the past two years, the university has harnessed its scientific and material resources to complete the completion of its urban projects ,the project of the Girls' Interior Building and the College of Education for Pure Sciences have reached the final stages. There are other projects that the university seeks to implement within the next few years with the aim of building a real foundation for scientific advancement towards wider spaces that contribute to the development and consolidation of the scientific movement in the new Iraq.
