The Indonesian Language and Culture Learning Service (INCULS) FIB UGM
fib.ugm.ac.idThe Indonesian Language and Culture Learning Service (INCULS) of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, was established in 2000 to replace what had been known as the Center for Indonesian Studies (PSI) from 1987, Learning Bahasa Indonesia as a Foreign Language (LBIFL) from 1992, and Non-Aligned Government (NAG) in 1993. The aim of INCULS is to provide courses and workshops for foreigners interested in Indonesia, Indonesian culture, and local languages. Language teachers and tutors at INCULS are trained in both the Natural Approach and the Communicative Teaching methods, in which subjects of direct pertinence to real-life situations and constant interaction are emphasized. Our culture teachers are all qualified faculty members of various departments of Gadjah Mada University. INCULS offers regular programs for the University of California (UC) and the United States Indonesia Society (USINDO) as well as Monash University and the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS). Private custom-designed course packets are also available. Private students have come from countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, and Great Britain. Tutorials, classroom instruction, special courses, workshops, etc. are all negotiable. Weekend tours to places of special interest, such as Borobudur Temple, the Sultan’s Palace, Mangkunegaran Palace, etc. can be arranged on request.
