The School of Computer Sciences was established officially on the 1st of March 1995 after functioning for a period of 20 years as the Division of Computer Science, an independent and autonomous unit within the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences. Over the years, the school has been engaging in various developments, advances, and achievements of computer science pertaining to the academic programmes, research and development, consultancy, community services and others. The school is now in a leading position as far as research and development activities are concerned and are gearing up its efforts to meet new challenges of research and development by restructuring our research activities/groups into 3 clusters to support our research activities. These 3 clusters (Enabling Technologies & Infrastructure, Data to Knowledge, and Service Computing) can be seen as our integrated approach in line with the emerging trend of multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. The school has been maintaining strong and strategic linkages with the industry. Formal and informal events has been organised to exchange ideas that benefit the curriculum and the industry. The school has been involved in various joint projects with all types of industries supported by the national and international grants. The school has also been involved in consultancies, particularly in software system developments. In terms of global partners, the school has always maintained strong and strategic linkages with universities in North America, Europe, Australia, Japan, Singapore and the Middle East. These smart partnerships include long standing research collaborations with several French universities on natural language processing, distributed computing and artificial intelligence. The joint supervision of postgraduate students is made possible through such linkages.
