Family Mentor Foundation
www.familymentorfoundation.orgFamily Mentor Foundation seeks to help meet the nutritional needs of children in our community so they can reach their full potential. Have you ever wondered about the children who get their best meals in the school cafeteria? What happens when they’re not in school? Many children who qualify for free lunch or reduced fee lunch at their schools have little to eat at home and return to school after the weekend distracted by their hunger and unable to focus on learning. Family Mentor Foundation’s goal is to bridge the gap; to send these kids home with a Buddy Box every Friday during the school year to alleviate their hunger. A Buddy Box is a disposable box filled with kid-friendly, nutritious, nonperishable, individual sized-food items that are easy for children to eat or prepare on their own. These meals and snacks help sustain the children on the weekends when they are not in school. What’s inside a Buddy Box? A typical Buddy Box contains ten items and provides: proteins, vegetables, fruits, whole grains and healthy snack items. 1 individual mac and cheese sleeve or cup 1 meat stick 1 applesauce/fruit cup 1 veggie/juice box 1 raisin box 1 oatmeal packet 1 small bag of sunflower kernels 1 individual bag of Goldfish crackers 1 individual bag of Teddy Grahams Currently, we provide Buddy Boxes for 1500 hungry children in the Worthington, Columbus and South-Western City School Districts. Buddy Boxes are packed and filled by volunteers at our warehouse. Want to get involved?
