Uncommon Effort-Wear

www.uewear.com

Uncommon Effort (UEwear.com) was created as a way to teach my two children how to start and operate a small business. Over the last couple of years, both of my kids have asked about earning extra money, beyond their small allowance. My 9yr old daughter has shown the most entrepreneurial interest so far. She’s done lemonade, bracelets, cookies, and muffins sales over the last two years. From an operational standpoint, my 12 yr old son will be responsible for helping with sales and bookkeeping. My daughter will be responsible for sales, fulfillment and helping with the creative side of the kids’ tee-shirt designs. (I’ve set some ground rules for the overall branding and keeping the designs simple) Uncommon effort currently has two designs in production at Mammoth Print Shop, here in Auburn AL, and a third being submitted for proofing before the end of the month. *update* - We'll have 6 designs total and over 200 shirts in inventory when we launch Sept 2019. I’ve already hired a local attorney to protect the logo and set up the LLC, and my kids will be aware of the capital required for this expense, the website/shopping cart, packaging, shirts, business expenses, etc. They’ll have access to real-time sales and expense so they can better understand the realities of operating a small business and the time it will take to “get into the black” They will be keeping track of the hours they work, as the business will be responsible for compensating them for their time. My wife will be handling order processing, customer service, and the daily operations as my time is focused on my role at Sonic Tools, less some nights and weekend free time. We’ll have some videos about this story and our first batch of sales, posted soon. See less
