NW Hope & Healing Foundation
www.nwhopeandhealing.orgNW Hope & Healing is a Seattle-based grass-roots nonprofit organization, founded by Christine Smith in 2000, whose goal is to help women get back on track financially, while they are dealing with the emotional and physical effects of cancer. We partner with the Swedish Cancer Institute to offer assistance and encouragement to women in the Pacific Northwest who are diagnosed with breast and gynecologic cancer. Our Patient Assistance Fund provides grants to help with everyday living expenses such as child care, groceries, reliable transportation, and emergency rent. In addition, our signature “Healing Baskets” are assembled and delivered, at no charge, to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients at all Swedish Cancer Institute campuses. In 2014, we expanded our geographic range of support to include women living in Kitsap County who are treated at the Swedish Medical Center Edmonds campus, and extended to the Eastside through our partnership with the Swedish Medical Center Issaquah campus. The Foundation is fortunate to operate with only two employees, thanks to dozens of dedicated volunteers. These volunteers keep our fixed expenses reasonable and low, allowing a majority of funds raised go to the women who need it most. We continue to receive a majority of our funding from special events, including our annual fashion show, 5k at Alki Beach, and wine tasting. We are proud to partner with Swedish Medical Center and be part of a community that understands and supports our mission to help relieve the financial stress of women facing cancer.
