The organization provides its members with professional development, industry lobbying, and joint marketing initiatives to increase industry capacity and to maximize awareness and sales of Atlantic-Canadian written and published books. The APMA acts as a liaison with the literary, arts, and education communities. The association publishes a consumer magazine (Atlantic Books Today), an annual holiday gift guide, and a catalogue for primary and secondary school teachers. It also organizes Eastbound, an annual conference of book-industry professionals, held in conjunction with the Atlantic Book Awards. The APMA has more than 30 members across all four Atlantic provinces, ranging from single-person operations to the largest English-language publisher east of Ontario. Its members publish books in all genres and for all ages. The majority publish books in English, although some publish books in French and other languages, including Gaelic and Indigenous languages. Many have won prestigious regional, national, and international awards.
