Severn FM (ringtone.net Ltd)
www.severnfm.comSevern FM is an Internet Radio Station Broadcasting to Gloucester, the surrounding communities and around the world running live and pre-recorded shows at severnfm.com and operated by Ringtone.net Ltd. It started off as an idea by Andy Clarke in June 2011 and a registered trademark was applied for by Ringtone.net Ltd and granted in September 2011. A Community Interest Company (South Gloucester Media CIC) was setup and a group of Directors put in place and they were given a license to operate the Severn FM brand as a Community Radio Station. Andy lead a team of unpaid volunteers to source and build two studios and the Old School in Hardwicke, Gloucester in the West Country (England) was chosen for their home. The Project took 2 months to deliver with S106 funding sourced from Hardwicke Parish Council. Severn FM launched a FM service on the 3rd December 2011 under an Ofcom RSL. Severn FM tried to run further RSLs and had missed the South West Community Radio licence "tranche" and the next application would not be accepted until mid 2014. This affected the ability for the CIC to generate interest from advertisers to generate revenue to run the station. We realised that operating a full time radio station with rented studios but only having access to "broadcast" on the internet was a challenging if not impossible model to sustain.
