Paul qualified as a professional photographer, initially serving a six-year apprenticeship in the photographic department of the Machinerys Publishing Company. During his apprenticeship he attended Brighton Polytechnic now (University of Brighton) and gained a City and Guilds certificate, then the Polytechnic of Central London now (University of Westminster) for a further four years gaining his PCL diploma in professional photography, associate membership of the BIPP and the MPA followed shortly afterwards. After qualifying, he worked in London for two years gaining valuable experience at two large studios specialising in catalogue photography. This intensive education and work experience positioned Paul well for a lifetime of photography.
